My White Wednesday...

I have had many comments on my bird bath...
so today I wanted to do a post and explain why it is what it is...
this really great old chair was a rummage sale find...
$1...
from a dealer friend here in town...
the bottom was gone but it had this great crackly, chippy paint going on...
and the turns on the spindles and legs are pretty to me...
the back has a pressed design of dots...
for years we have tried to have bird baths in the yard...
only to be broken time and again through the night...
cats, raccoons and who knows what else, were drinking from them...
and tipping them over trying to get to the water...
this was my last bird bath top...
so I just put it on the chair...
and we have had this one, unbroken, for 3 years now...
it's stable and everyone can drink from it...
then I got the idea of placing the bricks under it...
this is to keep the legs from sinking in the dirt and rotting...
so here it is...
my very shabby, thrifty bird bath...
$13 total...
and the bases for the bird baths are now topped with painted bowling balls...
gazing balls do not have a long lifespan here either!...

Happy White Wednesday!

  12. Hi Tete! What a wonderful way to repurpose not only a beautiful vintage chair but that saucer, too! I just love the simple rusticness of it all. Pretty garden, too! I love watching the birds at our birdbaths. They always look like they're having so much fun splashing around in them. :) Simple joys.....!

  13. Your chair birdbath is great! Thanks for the idea, I just may have to borrow it! We had a really neat cast iron bird bath, and the top just broke off! I thought cast iron was indestructible!! So rather than just toss it,now I know what to do!

  14. What a fabulous idea. Very clever. I had to give up my birdbaths. The kitties were getting too smart. I couldn't live with the guilt:(
