this is our second batch of them this year...
they turn into a very pretty small brown moth...
but the caterpillars can do extensive damage to the walnut trees...
so these were taken care of today...
the first batch were in the top of the tree before we knew it...
so they got away...
we have 6 walnuts, 5 of them being very young trees...
it wouldn't take much to kill them at all...
so, these guys had to go...
also burnt 2 bunches of bagworms on the north side this morning...
haven't had them in years...
you need to take the limb off and burn it to kill the worms...
a pretty dove on a wire...
I got up in the wee hours sick again and have had a yucky day...
slept through the afternoon...
nursed down some mashed potatoes...
and crackers...
such a pretty day and I am stuck in here...
DH trimmed trees and hauled the limbs to the burn pile...
there's a meatloaf in the oven for me and they are doing hamburgers tonight...
2 of the babies will be ready to go in a week...
but Tori won't be...
she is a little slow with the kitten food...
so still doing a bottle of beef baby food and water to get her through to her next step...
I'm going to be keeping her, I think...
she's my buddy...
and she bites DH's toes...
that's always a good thing...
hope you are having a good Monday...
I haven't been on here at all today, so I am going to try to hop some...
Craig did the photos today and I think he did a great job...
thanks little dude...
I've never seen a walnut caterpillar on our trees, but I've had oodles of those bag worms, we finally took the limbs off, and burned them with some diesel, and got rid of them.
ReplyDeleteI think I have about 8 walnut trees, 3 are older, and they alternate years in producing, which gives the squirrels food every year. And yes, that is basically what they are here for, the varmints. Also the apples and the peaches mostly go to them.
Sorry you were poopy today. With DH off it probably gave him a chance to get some work done. I have a walnut tree but no catepillars like that! yuck!
ReplyDeleteHope you way up perky in the am!
Hi Tete, Sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you are better very soon. I have never seen walnut caterpillars. We don't have any walnut trees so probably we won't see any. No bagworms either but we do get pests: earwigs, Japanese beetles, Eastern tent caterpillars. Glad you're going to keep Tori - I'm sure she's as attached to you as you are to her.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Beth
We have not had those here yet. Probably too hot for them. However, the lotus are everywhere.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Tete...just popping in to say I hope you are feeling a little better this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteWe had the tent worms last year, and hopefully we got rid of them all...yuck!!
Take it easy, and enjoy your meatloaf...yum.
Hugs,
Debbie
