Wanna go for a ride?

well, then, come on...
we have got 3 layers of clouds today...
and with the windows rolled down...
you can hear the corn rustling and frogs...
this is the road to the Berry Cemetery...
our first one in the area and the graves are very old...
back to the early 1800s...
and we have bean fields...
and God didn't bestow upon us great mountain ranges...
but he did give us an enormous sky...
brush along the rail road...
this used to be a stop for the train...
so many years ago...
and we still call it King's Crossing...
littered with spent rail road ties...
cat tails...
a favorite of my childhood...
when I was a kid, EVERYONE decorated with these in dried arrangements...
an old garage/ machine shed...
these are disappearing faster than I care for them to...
being replaced with metal pole barns...
less expense but so boring...
truss over the river where trains used to cross the divide...
used now by squirrels and deer...
this is a rare thing here...
a plot of land left unplowed...
it's bottom land and the gov't has a program where they supply seed and pay you not to plant crops...
but to provide a wildlife refuge on your farm...
it also helps stop erosion...
native seeds...
we got down to 51 last night...
so it's a bit nippy riding around with the windows down...
but so worth it!
now, these are hard to find these days, too...
a farm...
where they have sheep...
and cows...
and hogs...
out buildings...
old farm equipment of days gone by...
a functioning farm...
I do believe there's a chicken coop there...
a lone, small barn...
sad...
gearing up and getting ready...
we know this is DH's last weekend off until Harvest is over...
but it should go pretty quick this year...
well, I hope you enjoyed the ride today...
I sure did...
but it's time to grab something to eat and see what the rest of you are doing...
that's for stoppin' by...

  2. Hi Tete ~ What a beautiful ride with you today! Thanks for taking me along with you. :) The scenes outside your door looks a lot like the ones outside mine. Do you live on acreage?

  5. You went right by my house on your trip. We weren't home but you did drive right by. I also love having the sheep as neighbors especially when they have baby lambs in the spring. The pigs, they are a diffenent matter. I love looking at them but boy when the wind is out of the east my windows are closed. hahaha. Nice little drive.
