right around supper time, just after DH got home...
and he was just over an hour late last night...
there were combines in the field behind us...
busy getting things done...
we were on our way to the local high school jv football game...
but we took time to stop and watch the harvest happening right here in our back yard...
this field is usually one of the last ones taken in...
been like that for over 30 years...
and always done with red machines...
and they added a john deere this year...
the coyotes cannot hide back there anymore, now...
so hoping this helps in their appearances here lately...
the corn from there is in the 2 red wagons in the middle of the line for the elevator...
and this elevator stayed open until 7 last night...
on our way to the game...
we lost, but the boys played very well...
considering...
we are an A conference team here...
small school...
and they played a AAA team who needed to pick up some games this year to fill in their calendar...
it was a non conference game- which means it doesn't count against us at all...
just good practice and much need experience...
and as we left, we circled the "block"...
which is the back side of the elevator...
they finish out dumping whoever is in line at the shut off...
so, they were there after 7pm...
and that's the life as fall begins here...
it all revolves around the harvest and the kids...
and will for the next 6 weeks or so...
depending on the weather and how fast they can pull the crops from the fields...
prayers for a safe harvest...
it is a massive affair...
with massive equipment...
and the strongest, toughest people you will ever meet...
doing this for their families and the world...
and they are our neighbors and friends here...
;0)
hope your week is starting off on the right foot...
got things off here to a slow start yesterday...
but its going...
got the ac back on...
;0)
but that heat sure felt good a couple of mornings...
and we know the furnace still works...
that's always a good thing to know before you really need it...
;0)
don't have any big plans today...
probably some laundry, since I am down to the bras that I don't like that well...
and I am going to eat some more brownies...
well, maybe just one...
or half of one...
they are awesome...
have good days!
Small school football... I remember it well.
ReplyDeleteYes, check the furnace before you need it! Wise!
It is harvest time here as well. I love watching them work in the fields. Have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteEven in up here in Plainfield, just 30 miles west of Chicago, it's harvest time. Believe it or not, there's still farms dotting the landscape. There's even one right in the middle of my subdivision! Sometimes at night when an emergency vehicle speeds down Weber Rd., you can hear the coyotes howl. I kind of like it and I really like having them around, because they keep nature in balance (bunnies). Those rabbits wrecked havoc on my flowers this year. The repellent sprays don't work. I'm going to have to put up some kind of chicken wire fence around my beds. Yuck! Any rabbit repellent tips Tete? Oh and you had me at your bra comment! LOL! :) Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteTete, I know your man is going to be working some long hours. I will be thinking of you both. I actually saw some beans being cut here in Tipton county today. I met a young farmer once and he said he and others traveled to the heartlands to do what was called Harvesting The Heartland. Sounded interesting to me. Take care of yourself sweet girl. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat glimpse into your life. I bet it's cool to watch the field being harvested. - Ah...high school football games, brings back lots of fun memories.
