my kitchen after dark...

I love shadows...
and with lighting coming from different angles...
they cast some fun on the walls...
I love this!...
this doily was on an old piano for several years in the antique mall I ran...
and when it closed, I bought it and brought it home with me...
I am so glad no one else bought it...
the mantel is a $10 rummage sale find...
see how my curtain droops?...
the rod broke today while Craig and I were hanging it up...
it's on the list for next week...
Walmart is 25 minutes away for us...
we only do Walmart once a week...
and sometimes every two weeks...
if I can get my planning that far ahead...
w e always buy in bulk...
but there's always something...
did you all ever watch Trading Spaces on HGTV?...
I sure did when it first started...
and my favorite designer was Edward Walker...
I loved his designs!...
and I listened to him...
he said a touch of black in every room dresses it up...
I had never had anything black anywhere ever!...
so I started throwing it around here and there...
he was right...
and the kitchen table and chairs are from my grandmother...
I would so love a different style in here for sure...
but these were in her dining room...
and I just haven't been able to let them go...
maybe someday...
the iron work is from my neighbor last spring...
a storm brought down a huge tree in her backyard and took out her gazebo...
this is what was left of the straight pieces...
the rest were bent beyond recognition...
and she was going to throw them away...
and I said wait a minute...
as my DH rolled his eyes...
well, that's it for tonight...
I have napped off the Nyquil finally...
so may be up awhile....
you all have a fun weekend...
and thanks for all the kind comments this week...
they mean so much!
Hugs- Tete

  1. I sure enjoyed your kitchen by Light & Shadows....Love your mantel & I was wondering what that Fabulous Black Iron piece was, now mystery is solved ~ I use to watch Trading spaces, which designer was it that always put rope trim around the top of where the wall & Ceiling met??? I really did not like that (I say this, surely hoping that you don't have the infamous roping trim - since I could not actually see where your walls meet the ceiling in photos) well, time for bed.... Sweet Dreams Tete xox

  2. I love taking pictures of my home at night but they never seem to turn out as nice as yours have! You are a very good photographer.

    Beautiful post.

    Best wishes,

  3. DO NOT let go of your Grandmothers table! Think of all the wonderful meals and family discussions around that table!

  4. Tete-Very nice Shadow Shots! Isn't it fun what we can pick up that is trash to someone else and a treasue to us? Like that wrought iron piece? Love it. What a find-a mantle for $10. I love a mantle in a room-any room-every room. I am a mantle crazed chick!

It's funny but I held on to MyHero's grandmother's dining room set that we got when she moved in with her daughter. It was NOT my style and I knew I would have it probably until I died because I wouldn't be able to part with it. It was a Duncan Phyfe set. When she moved the set consisted of the table and 8 chairs, the hutch & the sideboard. Each grandson took one piece and we got the table and chairs (because we needed them) Over the years I thought it was a shame that the set had been split up so asked my 2 brother-in-laws if I could buy the pieces back from them. Neither one was willing to part with their pieces. A few years ran by and for my 50th birthday one b-i-l delivered the sideboard to me for a present. About 4 years after that my other b-i-l re-decoated their house and gave me the hutch back. Now I was in possession of the whole set. Daughter #2 buys her own house. She said to me, "Mom, I would really like to have Gramma's set someday because I have always loved it". BACK UP DELIVERY TRUCK! It is YOURS, darlin'! Whooooo-hooooo. She has moved it twice now and still loves it! Ah-how does the story end? MyHero picked out our dining room set (I DO like the way it looks-pretty much anyway). It has the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in...but..geez it looks good! I hate sitting in there for long periods. The old set we would sit for hours after dinner and talk with family and/or friends. Moral of the story-Never trade comfort for style;>) xxoo Diana

  5. Love the nighttime shadows. I think the doily on your mantle is just perfect--it belongs there. My favorite thing is that wonderful gazebo ironwork--it's perfect there. I would have a hard time getting rid of that wonderful table too. Oh the conversations that have taken place around that table :)

  7. Hi Tete
I love your doily on the mantle. I think I have the same pattern that's a vintage table cloth I picked up at a garage sale a few years back. Can you believe it was only $5?! The woman said her aunt made it many years ago. that made me feel a little sad, that she would part with something her aunt had made. But, I love it, and it looks great on our dining table! I've even used it as a tree skirt that last couple of years at Christmas. Have a great night!
