I so wish I had thought to do this...

it would have been worth getting it wrong...just once...
I took Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry...
I never understood why when they were measuring a stupid triangle...
why did they stop with just 2 sides???...
why didn't they measure the 3rd one while they were at it???...
think about it...
in real life...we just measure the whole thing while we're at it...
really...think about it...

just in case you're homesick, Doug...

the reason I started the blog was so my oldest, who married and moved out of state, could see home when he got homesick and he could keep caught up on what we were doing...
pictures are so important for him...
Doug was born deaf...
and everything has to be so visual for him...
you know the phrase- a picture is worth a thousand words?...
it is so true for him...
his wife is deaf, too...
and I know I see things differently than most people...
Doug taught me that...
because when he was diagnosed...
I knew he could never come into my hearing world...
I had to meet him in his...
and I started to really see without hearing...
to watch tv without sound...
to turn all the noise off...
and everything I could see and feel were more intense...
but at the same time...
I had to really hear everything...
all the little sounds...
to be very aware of what was happening around us...
because he couldn't hear...
not the danger...
not the joy...
no birds...
no motors...
when he became "aware" that he was different...
and there were things we all could hear and he couldn't...
we would walk around and I would try to tell him what was making noise...
what it sounded like...
hard...soft...
high...low...
pleasant...scary...
so we were walking one day and saw a butterfly...
and he wanted to know what it sounded like...
with the wings flapping so fast...it had to make noise...
he was totally amazed that it was "silent"...
I didn't have any advantage of  knowing when one showed up...
everyone...hearing or deaf...have to watch closely for one...
I see what most walk by because of him...
for you, baby...mom loves you...

the sun came out again...

these are coming along nicely...I have always loved yellow and pink together...
there's a heavy dew this morning...
the lilies by the shed started opening...
the day lilies are popping up...
grapevine finding its was among the stars...
a purple salvia...
the cactus is blooming this morning...
started this willow 3 years ago...
from the north end of the yard looking south...the soy beans are sure coming up now...
the very north part of the yard...we have about an acre here...just on the edge of town...
Mr Wiggles and Daphne
the cone flowers are budding...Terri gave me 2 starts of these about three years ago...
they are one of my favorite...
hope the sun is shining for you...

and they have several barns!
of course I get first dibs...but you all can fight over what I don't bring home...
take your truck to haul it all home in...

Amid the shadows...

if you have never tried taking photos in the dark...
grab your camera and go outside...
gazing ball...ahem...bowling ball in its past life...
I got so tired of the others breaking...kids...mower...wind...
so I bought 2 bowling balls at a rummage sale...
$1 each and my friend painted them a metallic bronze...indestructible...
you will need to practice on how far back to stand...if the flash doesn't reach it...it won't be in the shot...
they are turning pink...these in bloom are great in the after dark shots...
always on duty...
this is cool...caught in the act of making a web...a master weaver...
I wonder if she knows Charlotte?...
munches are eating the leaves...
give it a try...you never know what lurks in the dark...
