an early fall sky...

the leaves have fallen from the walnut trees and the nuts are about to come down...
a jet soars across the sky carrying who knows who to who knows where...
and we watch them go by...
maybe as they watch us below...
maybe wondering about us as we watch them go...
while purple swirls and dances before the sun slips low...
and birds gather to feed on the insects the barren field provides...
and we remember today a man who left us in January...
who was always a part of our lives...
and who know lives on in a better place...
waiting...
for us to join him...
my father in law...
today was his birthday...
the first one without him here...
Happy Birthday, old man...
we miss you so much...

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is here...

Ahoy!...
so ye thinks ye can be a pirate now, matey?...
ye may look like a pirate...
and ye may smell like a pirate...
but can ye talk like a pirate?...
here be a smidgen of a lesson for ye, then...
All Hands Hoay! - "All Hands on Deck!", everyone on the ship called to the deck, usually for action
Grab ye parrot and get ready to pirate down...
Avast - "Avast Ye!" from the Dutch term for 'hold fast' and means "Stop and pay attention.", like, "Get a load of this."
Black Spot - a death threat among pirates made of a black spot or mark on a scrap of paper with more specific detail sometimes written on the other side, referred to in the story, Treasure Island.
Dance the Hempen Jig - To hang, (rope was often made of hemp fibers)
Dungbie - rear end
Go on Account -a tongue-in-cheek description pirates used that compared the act of becoming a pirate to going into business
Hornswaggle - To cheat or defraud, often of money or belongings, Yosemite Sam knows a lot about it
Shiver me timbers! - akin to "Blow me down!", an expression of shock or disbelief, believed to come from the sound the ship made when 'shocked' by running aground or hit by a cannon blast.
Swing the Lead - A lead weight swung from a line into water when near shore was a way to measure depth, the job's simple requirements caused the phrase to evolve into a term for slacking off
Take a Caulk - The deck's gaps were sealed with oakum and tar, and napping on them would leave black lines on the clothes. Someone going to nap on deck could say they were going to "take a caulk"
Black Jack - large drinking cups made of leather that were made stiffer with an application of tar
Bumboo - A drink of the West Indies made with watered rum and flavored with sugar and nutmeg
Grog - the nickname of a British admiral was applied to a mix of water and rum, the rum was a cheap antiseptic and flavor mask for the spoiled water that sailors often encountered while at sea
Hogshead- a large barrel or cask holding 63 to 140 gallons, usually referring to alcohol
Aye matey...
all this pirate lingo wears out a weary soul...
tis time to take a caulk...
and sleep off the bumboo...
if ye thinks ye have what it takes to go on account...
here be a wonderful place to start...
until we meets again...
may the winds be in ye sails...
ye hogshead always full...
and may ye steer clear of Davy Jones locker...

yesterday evening...

Craig and I went for a walk...
see the moon?..
and we sat at the end of the street, laughing and looking for corn cobs...
waiting for the sunset...
this is what's left after they pick...
and they will leave it like this until spring...
to hold the top soil...
and after chucking corn cobs at me...
someone got in my face...
a sure fire way to be blogged...
you can almost see forever now!...
and here is somewhere I have never been in my chair...
we had started down the sidewalk...
but it was way too bumpy...
so we went back and he just took me out in the road...
if you look real close...
there is a car coming...
I kept repeating "hurry up""...
we made it...
then we turned around and got this...
and when we got back...
the sun had turned my sedum an even more pink color...
it was awesome...
and then we had to get these out...
we didn't take a bag...
so we stuck them in behind me in the chair...
corn cobs are a reddish pink color and great to fall decorate with...
and they are free...
the weather man must have a drinking problem...
our forecast is for 94 on Tuesday...
doesn't he know the pumpkins will rot if this keeps up before Halloween?...
silly man...
I sure hope your weather man is an ice tea kind of guy...
Happy fall weekend!

there are still some blooms...

the temperatures are getting lower all the time at night...
but there are some things that are still going...
but probably not for long...
all then we will have to clean all of this up and dump the pots...
and get ready for the winter months...
and I am going to miss this when it goes...
the field behind us is picked clean...
beans don't leave a lot of stubble...
and the leaves are thinning out...
but if we don't get some rain...
there will be no color in our fall...
and that's not a good thing...

I'm floating today...

I have been doing the shadowing...
I'm not done with that yet...
but have to wait until it dries before I can add more...
floating takes a wet brush and a tip of color on the end...
and then you have to let it dry completely before going back over it...
then the fun part!...
adding all the details...
I am only doing 2 of everything this year...
then if it doesn't sell...
oh well...
and if I sell out...
woo hoo...
farmers are still running full tilt...
some of the corn is down to 12%...
that's way too low...
should be 18%...
and it will only go lower the longer it sits...
the dryer it is, the less weight...
the less price at the elevator...
it's crunch time...
the field behind us is usually one of the last ones out...
and they picked it yesterday...
the dust is so bad...
we have a small chance of rain Sunday...
we went from marsh lands to drought this summer...
it's just after 11am and its 64 here...
not a bad day...
sunny, too...
hope your day is pretty...
heard storms hit NYC pretty bad...
hope everyone is ok that way...
