some brown, some pink and a little bit of rain...

in the wee morning hours...
the guys slept in and I and the babies got down to business...
then I went out with the camera...
you can really see the dead grass here...
called mower guy this morning and told him not to bother with us this week...
and it was hazy...
but the clouds overhead had a pink cast to them...
just dotted around...
here and there...
like cotton candy...
and the guys missed the whole thing...
everything is turning brown...
and the haze lingers long in the mornings...
so I went back to bed...
and when I got up...
the guys were busy cleaning...
and it had rained .10...
so we went out to play just a bit...
moving things around for fall...
and we all know it's coming...
I think my blahs are from things becoming stale...
a little change always perks me up...
and I'm in limbo here until the new deck and roof are done...
and who knows when that's going to happen...
waiting and waiting...
I am so ready...
I have never liked anything being permanent...
I like to change it up all the time...
move things around...
and the peeling paint on the deck is starting to get to me...
at first it was cool and fun...
now it just looks dirty to me...
if I had known it was going to take this long...
it would have gotten a coat of cheap paint this spring...
and the lack of rain has everything looking tired...
but, just a few minutes ago, we got a downpour...
didn't last long, but it's more than we have had in over a month...
I miss storms...
I have so missed the rain...
and I so love the peace a cloudy day brings...
hope all of you are taking the time to really enjoy these last few weeks of summer...
before school starts back up...
before the sweaters come out...
before the lightening bugs go back to sleep...
because, around here...
fall just goes way too fast...
and it's my favorite time of the year...
and it will be over in the blink of an eye...
and we all know what comes after that...
not even going to say it...
grab your flipflops, sunglasses and go get an ice cream cone...
later...

I am having problems...

I can't comment on very many of you...
been trying...
a couple went through...
but the rest...
I get an error page...
ARG!
Sorry if you haven't heard from me...
but I don't know what to do about it!

good morning...

we had an escapee yesterday afternoon...
but she didnt' get far...
the babies are doing better on their antibiotics...
but not playing too much yet...
the last of the frozen store bought corn from the freezer...
from here on out...
it's fresh all the way...
supper last night...
deboned the chicken...
used the broth and a package of crockpot seasoning for beef with a south western flair...
added a can of peas...
noodles and it was good...
it had a kick to it...
tomatoes are blushing and have to get these picked today...
lavender...
someone came up in a railroad tie by the corn...
not exactly where we planted them...
a wall of corn stretches across the backyard...
the yard was mowed a week ago...
hasn't grown at all...
turning brown...
and hard and crunchy sounding...
we have cloudy skies and around 84...
a lot milder than it has been...
should be out doing something...
but I'm on day 2 of a migraine...
and the thought of bending over...
no- just staying in and quiet...

DH came home last night and a farmer had brought in an ear of corn...
only 2/3 the normal size and only half of it kernel...
and those are so small they will have to change the screens on the cleaner...
heads up...
if we don't get rain, food prices are going up...
this ear was food grade corn...
the other corn looks a little better, but not up to par, for sure...
stock up now on staples...
they use any excuse to raise prices, you know...

still no sign of Robbie...
called the shelter this morning...
they have a facebook page and posted on it...
they are cruising Oakland today...
so if they see him...
they will call...
3 days now...
if someone found him...
they kept him...
just wish we knew he was ok and not hurt or ate by coyotes...
we have plenty of those around here...
well, need to get moving...
just a little bit...

bored?

the blahs...
Plural form of blah. · (with the) A feeling of boredom and no motivation
it's the heat...
being stuck inside...
looking at 4 walls...
the heat is getting to so many...
it can cause so much stress physically but mentally, too...
fuses are shorter...
and just plain tired all the time...
little things become big things...
just hang on...
our heat wave is breaking here...
the next 10 days doesn't have a 90 or 100 degree day in it!
all 80s...
and some of the nights are down into the 60s...
so just hang on...

haven't been doing anything exciting here for sure...
housework, laundry, meals...
not one thing creative...
no rearranging...
not making anything...
no painting...
not even thrifting...
except at the grocery store...
the babies are still too young to be a lot of fun yet...
they sleep most of the time...
Tillie...
this one is cranky with an attitude...
we are going to have to put a warning label on her when she goes up for adoption...
Torie...
this one is my problem child...
she's been sucking her own butt...
we have had many talks about that...
can't wait until she outgrows it...
until then, she is wearing a collar that she doesn't like...
and then there's Thumper...
all boy...
just sleeps and eats...
he was turned the other way and I didn't want to wake him up...
so no photos of him...

well, back to bed until the next feeding...
;)

a cooler day...

everything is so stressed from the heat and lack of rain...
and some things are blooming anyway...
just not as brilliant as they could have been...
raking leaves and weeding have been put on hold for some time now...
watering and feeding the birds are more important...
our time outside has been minimal...
the best way to dead head this is to just shake it...
the spent blooms fall off easily...
half of the rose of sharon is stark...
it's getting pruned back this fall...
some of the pots didn't make it through the hot weather...
but some hung on...
and it sure looks like the beginning of fall here...
it will come early...
and the tomatoes are coming on...
5-8 more days and we can start cooking them down for the freezer...
we used to can tomatoes at home, but I like them better frozen...
it's just a good time to walk around and enjoy all the work of spring and summer...
there's time for a little breather...
before the next phase of the garden begins...
taking photos...
plotting beds for next year...
making lists of things to add...
the hoes haven't been out for awhile now...
but the rain seems to be coming in this weekend...
and that always brings the weeds as well as the blooms...
no lawn to mow this week...
we will start cleaning the beds out soon...
cutting things back...
putting things up...
prepping for fall decor...
and things that go bump in the night...
my favorite transformation...
when ghosties replace fairies and bats replace bees...
yeah, I'm ready for that...
by then the babies will be raised and up for adoption at the shelter...
there will be more time...

still no Robbie :(...
I just hope he is in someone's home...
safe and sound...
and that they take care of him...
I really don't mind someone else having him...
just wish I knew he was ok...
God watches over all of them...
and He knows where he is...
just trusting in Him to take care of Robbie...
we are not the only loving home...
and there are others who may need him more...
because nothing never really belongs to us...
it all belongs to HIM...
He just loans it to us for awhile and can take it back at anytime...
sometimes we are blessed to keep things for a lifetime...
sometimes a season...
and sometimes just a day...
but no matter how long the blessing...
we need to appreaciate it while it's here...
there may not be tomorrow...
Georgie's passing opened the door to Robbie...
and if Robbie doesn't find his way home...
that will open the door to someone new...
I don't know who will need us next...
but they always find their way here...
trusting today...
we have to...
