we finally got some sun today!

but it didn't happen right away...
this is Spot...
see the black spot on its back?

we went out early and started in...
first thing I did was trim some of the branches on the red maple so I could see the bird feeders from the kitchen window again...

the tulips are on their last legs, but I hate to trim them back until they drop their petals...

the poof balls of the dandy lions are many this year...

then we headed over here...
to dig out the grass and lay a new brick line so its mower friendly...
see the paw sticking out in the bottom right corner?

we then moved the bench over here and a gazing ball...
aka painted bowling ball...

its coming together...

the rose of sharon finally started its leafing out...
always the last to the party...

so when we got done, we took a walk and found these out front...

and one last look at the poof balls...

I love these deep purple iris...

and of course, we were followed...
its a wonder we ever get anything done around here...

just so pretty...

I can't wait until these multiply...
and we had just finished here and the mower man showed up...
he did us on his lunch hour...

this is going to be a fun place to sit in the afternoons and evenings...

radishes are up...
and then we did lunch while the mowing was going on...

this afternoon...
just wanting to see how it will look with the fence sections...
my son said I wouldn't blog this...
yeah, right...
now I took 3 photos trying to get one without his finger in his nose...
that didn't happen...
he had a bug go up his nose and it was not staying...
he finally got it out...

everything is growing by leaps and bounds around here...

still too early to plant the planters, though...
and we may not have the money to do many this year...
but that's ok...

now this is after the sun came out...
columbine...
its a very hearty, old fashioned one...

got my start from an old house here in town that was being torn down in the 80s...

I think we could bale the grass...

when we moved in here...
there was nothing at all...
not even grass...

and I knew I wanted the yard to have that 'lived in' look...
because I had always loved the private gardens of sweet little old ladies...

I wanted older plants...
vintage things...
things that looked like they had been there for years...
like someone had been here before me...
we have planted everything that grows here except for what God and the squirrels and birds have helped out with...
and there is a story behind everything out there...
things from people no longer here...

its where I play...
where I pray...
a walk out here is like being wrapped up in your favorite fuzzy blanket...
its home...

there is still much to do...
always something in progress...
always changing...
evolving into something better...

a place safe from a world that is ever changing...
and sometimes scary...
a place of peace...
solitude...
and love...

thanks for stopping by and listening to me rattle on...
blessing to you and your gardens...

a garden walk...

it was another dreary, rainy day here...

but, finally, this afternoon, we got outside...

and the rains have brought forth many new things...
I love it when the ferns uncurl...

and as some pretties begin to fade, others are readying for their time in the sun...

our hydrangea...
the drought hurt it pretty bad, but it is still with us...
another project on the list of things to do...
cut back...

the asian lilies are up...

and after work, DH started his trim mowing...
mower guy called and he will be here tomorrow...
he is so far behind...
and it could start raining again at noon...
only one day this week without rain in it...

the columbine are coming into their time...

baling hay...

I think I am going to paint this a dark chocolate brown...
white would make it pop and over power the side yard...
I want it to fade in a bit and be a surprise when you walk through the yard...

front flower bed...

so delicate...

and so hearty...
like us girls...

and they bloom where ever you plant them...
the humming birds love these...

all you hear are mowers anymore...
the rains and warm weather are making it impossible to keep up...
and right before we came in...
the sun popped out...
for about 10 minutes...
and then it hid away again...

our green pepper plants...
going to mud them in tomorrow...

its been a long day...
just waiting around for the sun to come out...
and briefly, it did...
but there are stars out tonight...
so I am hoping to wake to sunshine in the morning...
its been so long, it seems...

God's blessings to you and yours...
and I hope you get some sunshine in, too...
it won't be long till the hot days of summer are upon us...
so just take the time to enjoy spring...
;)

the best of yesterday...

a lady cardinal coming in to feed...

the indigo bunting...
such a pretty boy...

she watching the smaller birds...
waiting for them to drop something on the ground...

once the leaves come in full, I won't get to see them very much...

its beginning to be a full house here...

then we took a drive...
this is the golf course...

and the pond at the golf course...

these loaded too soon...
but here we are back home...
peonies are growing so much every day...

the tulips are about done...

we spent yesterday cleaning...

and this morning was the Walmart run and breakfast at McDonald's...
did I ever show you my Paris box?
for the Dollar General last month...

new lamp and swags in the kitchen...

now to finish the drive...
at the end of the city park...

and for some reason, we have cranes in the area...
not many, with us being landlocked...
but this one was just below the dam...

standing there in the rain...
and we still have rain today...
so the sports channels are on and I may have to nap the afternoon away...
;)
got 3 nice days coming in...
then more rain...
got my green bell pepper plants today...
so we need to mud those in tomorrow...
been looking for a yellow knock out rose...
no luck, so far...
well, on my way to dream land...
have a great day!
