its trying to look like fall...

most of the leaves here are still green and still on the trees...

we haven't had a frost yet...
or even a good scare of one...

we took the long way to the grocery store this morning...
and there were some characters hanging around town...

look at all that color!

this guy is hanging out on the street the school is on...
can you imagine being little and walking by him?
bwahahahaha!

all that fall color was in the top of this tree...
not very much of it at all...
but it looks good in the sunlight to me...

and the Saturday night bath has come early this week...
;0)
the rate things are going, we will be raking leaves on Thanksgiving...

I am going to take a minute and clarify a few things...
from some questions in the comments...

harvest for us is a bit batty...
DH, who worked in a factory for over 27 years, was let go when they failed to make a profit anymore here in the US...
most of our factories that were here either moved to Mexico or over seas...
we have a bunch of empty buildings, though...
that forced him to find another job...
oh, about 15 years ago...
he went to work here at the elevator...
and now he works for the same company, just in another town...
8 miles north on country roads...
and he works out in the open 90% of the time all year long...
it gets very hot here...
and it gets very cold here...
but he's out there rain, sleet, hail...
doesn't matter...
in the fall...
he's there most of the time...
he pulls 12 hour shifts and works 13 days straight when the crops start coming in from the fields...
its better than it used to be when he first started...
they used to work them 14-18 hour shifts with no days off until it was done...
it can be very dangerous work and it is hard work...
the machinery and the dangers of explosions are very real...
they must keep track of bin moisture and temps all the time...
if they fall in a bin, they die...
DH turned 60 this year and keeps up with 20-30 year olds...
most people won't do this type of work...
they want inside jobs, days off...
but, it pays the bills and we have insurance...
and I hate every minute that he has to do this...
but the harvest money gets us through the year...
we put it back...
to cover things like taxes, vehicle repairs...
doctor bills...
and I worry about him...
and his new boss is a jerk...
making it really hard on the guys this harvest...
they are the ones who I asked for prayer for...
this handful of guys are close...
closer than most families are...
and they have each other's backs...
in a few more weeks, harvest will wind down again...
we will get back to the normal times and supper won't be at 8pm anymore...
he won't be so tired...
we will have our walks...
and eat $2 hamburgers when we go out...
;0)

doctor's appointment tomorrow to get something else to take to keep my blood sugar down...
Craig is taking me over there...
making chili this weekend...
its supposed to be cooler!

so, have a wonderful night...
;)
I need to work on the kitchen here...
and have my supper prep work done...
so I am ready when he gets home...
;0)

harvest days are the hardest for me...

the hours seem endless...

so I try to fill my time...

the best I can...

pirate guy's make over...
he was going bald...

I sat outside this evening at sunset to get some more photos...

I noticed we should have really watered today...

I miss my guys...
and the neighbors that are gone now...
our "new" neighbors don't talk...
but they are busy making over the house...
and they both work...

this is my view when I sit on the steps and look towards the street...
one of my favorite places to spend time...

I need to go through the winter clothes totes and pull out some warmer things and get them washed up and ready to go...

we are in those days where you need a sweatshirt in the morning and a tank top and flip flops after lunch...

I started a movie on Netflix and got half way through with it...
so will watch the other hour of it tonight after DH goes to bed...
I still wait up for Craig to get home...

"To Kill A Mockingbird" is one of my favorites...
and its been awhile since I had seen it...

and I started crocheting again this year...
been many years since I did this...
I have been making baby blankets and lap throws...
this is the latest...
my testimony to the many hours spent alone...
;0)
I have one in the van for when we are out...
the parking lots are so cold in the winter time in a wheel chair...
I gave one away when a new baby came...
there are some in a tote in my play room...
and this one...
it started with a bag of yarn at a rummage sale for $5...
every one of them is single crocheted...
for warmth...
I have made some scarves, too...
the thought was to make baby blankets and give them to the toy drive...
for the babies...
;0)
and it has kind of exploded into chaos...
you know how it goes...
;0)

its another Monday...

DH was off Saturday and Craig was off Sunday...
so I had a weekend with the guys...

DH and I did the grocery shopping and Walmart run...
ate supper out...

Craig and I took a drive in the country...

between laundry, dishes, cooking and cleaning...

we had fog this morning and the sun is just now coming out...
and its going to be right around 80 for the next few days...

we got about a third of an inch of rain from the hurricane spin offs...
South Carolina wasn't so lucky...

the images are just horrific...
and people have lost so much...

the farmers are still picking here...
some working some dirt in between...

prices of corn are down, so we think they are leaving it longer in the field hoping they won't have to pay the drying fees...

there is a lot already done, but so much more to go, yet...

it would be nice if they were all finished before Halloween...
and they could've been easily, but waiting for better prices is something they need to do...

as long as it doesn't backfire...
one wind storm will knock it down and then picking will be an ugly monster...

the white thing is a ground pile...
when they no longer have room in the bins...
the corn goes here...
and the metal thing in front is called a stacker...

I am having better days...
figured out it was the Metformin that was making me so sick and hurt more than normal...
called the doctor's office and going in on Thursday to see if there is something else I can take...

didn't get much of anything at Walmart...
a pair of gloves and ear muffs...
a couple things of yarn...
shampoo, body wash and vitamins...
we really do lead a boring life...
McD's had Big Macs on sale, so we ate there for supper...
we don't get those very often at all, so was fun doing it...

we hit Kroger for the groceries and had the back seat full in the van...
its easy putting things in the cart and hauling them to the van...
but all the trips from the van inside and then finding a place to put everything isn't for wimps...
and we are wimps...
we both took naps after we got it all done...
;0)

hope your weekend was wonderful...
I know that many spent the weekend in the area pumpkin patches...
;0)
I miss having time to do fall stuff...
since DH has been working at harvest time these past years...
we didn't always have to do harvest...
we were normal once...
long ago...
;0)
have good days!

I'm getting my halloween on...

come back later for more...

have a great weekend and do something weird...
its just more fun that way...
;0)

another week, another month...

this week has just flown by for me...
so much for getting my list done...

I did play with the inside fall decor yesterday, but not happy with it...
gotta rework it a bit...

and I didn't even cook yesterday!
I know, shame on me...

we snagged a pizza instead at Casey's...
and a box of day old doughnuts...
and it was full of pumpkin ones...
;0)

got a couple of prayer requests this morning...
if you do that kind of thing...
my uncle, the last surviving one is in the hospital and they think he had a stroke...
they just moved my aunt and uncle into a nursing home last weekend...
she is not well, either...
then...
got news late last night about one of our local firemen...
they thought his intestines were coming out...
and he is a fireman/ rescue driver...
he is trained as a first responder and goes out on calls with the ones who transported him last night...
he helped us with Christmas Is A Child, was Santa for the fire stations thing with the local kids here and he was the main one to get the fireworks back in town along with extended the activities to it becoming an all day thing...
he has a wife and 2 daughters...
he is just a few years older than my son and was our next door neighbor when he was a kid...
he tries so hard to do good...
and he helps so many people here...

please keep them both in your prayers this weekend...

DH has Sunday off and so does Craig...
(Craig's birthday is tomorrow, but you didn't hear it from me)
I think we will be heading out to Paris...
you know...
the home of the whopper...
;0)
