good morning...

hope you enjoyed your weekend...
this is one of my favorite views in the yard...
looking though the willow to the sand cherry bushes...

the roses are blooming again...
this one bloomed big earlier, and then got ready for another display...

the day lilies are blooming now, too...
just not as many as before...
some have been recent transplants and others are too over crowded and need thinned out again...

we had a slow weekend here...
we have eaten a lot of fresh green beans from the garden...
we have gotten 3 1/2 walmart bags so far...
gave the half bag to a neighbor last night...
waiting to see if they produce again in the next few days...
if not- its time to pull them and replant...

we are having a hotter than normal year with a lot of humidity...
got a really hot weekend coming up...
so thinking about indoor projects...

nothing earth shattering...
maybe just some sorting and purging of things I have held onto for who knows what reasons...
thinking I will do something great with it or I had plans I can't even remember now...
I am not a minimalist at all...
though I wouldn't mind being somewhere in the middle of that and total chaos...
:O)

with the heat, I am spending more time inside than outside...
so, I should probably get to doing something to show for that time...

hope you have a good week...
thanks for stopping by...

are we melting yet?

heat index is 109 today...
so guess where I am...

the garden is doing very well in all the rain and heat...

I love this design...

just a simple oval...
easy to mow around...
with the green beans planted on the very outside edge...
I can sit on my wagon/cart thingy and pick...
would you believe that we got 2 walmart bags of green beans on Monday?

we cooked them last night and had a neighbor for supper...
he didn't get a garden out this year...
and there are plenty of green tomatoes out there...
just waiting for them to turn...
we also have  a little humming bird coming in and eating from the tomato blooms...

the grass is still growing like spring time and its holding onto the dark green color...
and the bugs are terrible this year...
mosquitoes are nasty little things...
but the lightning bugs are so numerous this year, its fun watching the yard go dark...
wish I could have been there on the making of those...
ya know, someone asking God what are you going to do with that one?
oh, I'm going to make his butt light up...
it'll be fun, just wait and see...

I posted last time about turning the blog into a private one...
well, I have decided to leave it open...
for now anyway...
all because of 3 comments...

squash and turnips...
under the willow tree...

the hydrangea are having the time of their lives in this rainy, humid, hot stuff...

so Susie and Beth, my old friends...
we have been blogging together for so long now...
you seem like family...
thank you for your comments...

LA Dreamin' is going to be one of our favorite things in the yard...

and the 3rd comment was from Annarica from a small village in South Africa...
it touched my heart to hear from you...
its still amazes me how with the internet, that we can connect with people all over the world...
well, sweetie, your comments sure mean something to me...
I'm from a small town, too...
I think we would get along just fine and looking forward to hearing more from and about you...
I hope you have time to comment more often...

made veggie soup the other night...
so having that tonight for supper...
then the other part of the green beans on Thursday...
left overs on Friday to clear out the fridge so we can start over again...
Craig brought home corn on the cob...
25 cents an ear this year...
they were up to $5 for 4 last year...
we didn't buy any...
:)
but we are this year...
got blooms on the green peppers, too...
they seem to like it cooler, but look pretty good to me...
will see how they fill out...

well, all the animals are in...
and napping...
so think I will join them here, if there is space in my bed...
I see the couch is already taken...
:)

have good days and stay out of the heat...
only 30% chance of rain now...
may be watering after dark...
cooler tomorrow...

a very big possibility...

thinking about making my blog private...
just a blog diary for us to compare the changes in our lives and the gardens...
what do you think?

I don't have many comments anymore...
but I still get over 1,000 visits a month...

so, would you miss us?

is blogging a thing of the past?
with all the other media choices...
is it worth the effort to keep it open?

please, let me know soon what you think...

Happy 4th...

the garden is doing well...
so much rain in the last few weeks...
we have baby green beans and baby tomatoes...

and our rose garden area, thanks to Craig, has expanded...

he grabbed 4 more rose bushes on clearance....
2 of them are knock out and I think they will be red...
the 2 bigger ones are Belinda's Dream #2...
which are a medium double rose...

we did not dig this whole area up to get rid of the sod...
we took old newspapers and laid them down 2 layers thick around the planted rose bushes...
then, we went back to the burn pile and hauled a couple loads of the cinders and piled that around them on top of the newspapers...
it was free and we are getting rid of the large pile we have back there...
we also put this around the new bushes that we have planted this spring and the rose of sharon we planted last fall...
there are plans to use it in a few more places...

the squash has done well so far...

we had a bad storm last weekend and there are limbs like this down around town...
this one is in the vacant lots across the street...

and we have still not used this...
its either raining and storming or too hot and humid...
looking for a break in the heat next week...

our 4th celebrations were last weekend...
so tomorrow will be a down day and probably looking for Craig and car day...
we didn't do any of the day activities, like the car show this year...
we stayed home and worked on the yard while we could...
we did drive out to see the fire works Saturday night...

we got the 4 rose bushes planted, the LA Dreamin hydrangea planted and I divided 3 boston ferns and potted them to give us 6 now...
then we did the papers and cinders(mulching) around the plants...
by that time, it was starting to heat up and the humidity has been terrible, we were back inside to do house work, cook and just lay around...

be well and be safe...
