My White Wednesday...

I have had many comments on my bird bath...
so today I wanted to do a post and explain why it is what it is...
this really great old chair was a rummage sale find...
$1...
from a dealer friend here in town...
the bottom was gone but it had this great crackly, chippy paint going on...
and the turns on the spindles and legs are pretty to me...
the back has a pressed design of dots...
for years we have tried to have bird baths in the yard...
only to be broken time and again through the night...
cats, raccoons and who knows what else, were drinking from them...
and tipping them over trying to get to the water...
this was my last bird bath top...
so I just put it on the chair...
and we have had this one, unbroken, for 3 years now...
it's stable and everyone can drink from it...
then I got the idea of placing the bricks under it...
this is to keep the legs from sinking in the dirt and rotting...
so here it is...
my very shabby, thrifty bird bath...
$13 total...
and the bases for the bird baths are now topped with painted bowling balls...
gazing balls do not have a long lifespan here either!...

Happy White Wednesday!

Arr, matey...

I have seemed to misplaced me parrot...
the search is on for me treasure...
I will report back when I have found me booty...

I want to show you falmer...

it looks a lot like fall...
but with the temps in the 90's, it feels like summer...
so half way in between fall and summer is falmer...
and that's worth a drive...
all the unmowed road ways are littered with wonderful yellow...
but there's still green...
and beans...
but it wouldn't be falmer without John Deere...
you should hear all the rustling going on...
corn is a noisy crop...
and implements litter the landscape...
the ears need to drop...
and a lot of fields are labeled with the seed used...

an old RR sign...leaning from being pushed aside by farming...
and the roads we traveled today were criss crossed with RRs...
fun red gate just waiting for swinging on...
that leads to a pasture of black angus beef cattle...
golden rod is blazing...
but we need rain and the creeks are low...
and our here in the boonies...
there are no lights or warnings...
you have to stop and look both ways and listen...
the trains have to blow their horn...
one short, one long, 2 short...
a field picked...
augers in front of the elevator...
just waiting to be put into use...
the elevator gearing up...
a couple of farmers dumping this evening...
the elevator is huge...
and what would a falmer drive be without a little critter?...
I met a new friend on the way home...
his mommy was hit by a car and went to Heaven...
so he was rescued with his sibling...
this little boy is about 4 weeks old...
in another month he can be released back where he needs to go...
he is so healthy and happy...
he chattered at me and talked up a storm...
what a sweet baby he is...
I will visit him again before we have to say goodbye...
ya'll have a great evening...
and if you have a critter...
sit down and have a chat...
you'll be surprised at what they have to say...

Ahoy, me Hearties!... did you know?

that there is an international talk like a pirate day?...
well, you do now...
I had no clue either...
any excuse to celebrate Johnny Depp as a pirate is good enough for me...
so grab a parrot and play along...
Captain Jack Sparrow would want you to...

night time...

the leaves are starting to gather...
amd the evenings are a nice time to sit outside...
we are having massive temp changes here...
in the 50's at night and 90's during the day...
a chance of rain this afternoon...
but a bigger chance in a couple days...
everything is very dry...
watering a couple times a day...
just sitting here in the dark waiting for the sun to come up...
and everyone else to get out of bed...
have a great morning!...

hopefully our last warm day...

yesterday while we were rearranging the deck area...
I put spent hydrangea in the bird cage...
the little petunia had passed away...
and this morning the table was covered with little leaves...
my first leaf pile!...
I cut some spent cone flowers to stick in the can in tea pot...
they will finish aging here...
this is a frame to a broken mirror given to me by a friend...
I like the detail...
and with cooler weather coming...
this can be painted white to go inside somewhere...
it was a little hot already on the deck and not much of a breeze...
so we headed to the other side...
and I caught Mr Wiggles pooping in the fire pit...
bad kitty...
my pink rose...
this is the one we will be moving soon...
can you imagine that we had half a can of paint just sitting around?...
the bottoms are out of these, but they will make good planters next year...
and finally, this poor old screen is getting some attention...
we just did lunch and the guys have a football game on...
I have other plans for them, by golly...
we need to do some work in here...
but we are basically at a standstill...
we found another couch at the city wide rummage sales on Friday...
so now we have 2 couches and three recliners in my living room...
all of Doug's boxes...
the rest of our stuff...
he moves into his apartment after the first of the month...
Tuesday is his court date for the divorce...
he is so ready to move on...
all the extra furniture and dishes and junk I have been hanging onto...
will be going with him...
then we will be able to walk through here without taking out a knee or a shin...
this will probably be the last week the four of us will ever be under the same roof...
and as much as I will miss him...
it's going to be a very good thing...
hope you all are having a great weekend and that your weather is perfect!
take time today to share a laugh, a hug and a smile today!

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY...

to begin with...
morning shadows...
and then...
late afternoon shadows...
I hope you have a wonderful, shadowy Sunday...
for more shadows...
