early signs of fall here...

good morning!

I hope your weekend is full of fun plans...

we have our city wide rummage sales this weekend...

but there is only one that I want to go to...

found these wild sunflowers yesterday evening on our drive...

we have had a wonderfully cool week here and even cooler nights...

but we have warmer weather coming and no rain until the next weekend...

another sign of fall...
those bags hold the football players gear...
and homework...
this picnic table is just outside the door of the gym...
they have always had one there...
even when my boys played...

our first game is tonight, but its away...
so will have to wait until they play at home to see them in action...
we used to be the Oakland Oaks...
orange and black...
but we had to consolidate the sports programs...
first with just one town...
so the kids at each school picked what color they would keep and a new name...
we picked orange and the other town picked purple...
yes...its not a good combination...
the shades of each could be toned down a bit...
but this is what they wanted...
and...
the new name of the teams?
Tri County Titans...
with a Trojan for a mascot...
go figure...
you would think someone would have caught that tiny error...
you know, being a school with teachers and all...
;0)
now another school has joined us and we cover 4 counties, not just 3...
another name change?
PLEASE!
and new colors...
probably ain't going to happen...
each school does their own home coming and all that...
but we still cheer them on...
and sometimes mess up and yell...
GO OAKS!
old habits are hard to shake for us old timers...
;0)
need to find my cow bell...
(there might have been a bunch of us when our kids played that showed up with cow bells and milk jugs partially filled with gravel)
could we make some noise...
;0)
we might just have to show this new generation of parents how to get rowdy!

happy, happy hump day...

I know I missed a day, but got busy...
and we have baby green beans!

just a shot at the fine stackin' job I do...
that was my job as a kid...
we had 2 old wood stoves in that big old farm house I grew up in...
hauled plenty of wood, too...
split, haul, stack...

got some mornin' glories happening here, too...
and right in my back yard..

had a red fox trot across the north part of the yard right before lunch this morning...
no shot of that...

y'all know I had a bad day on Monday after all the work we did over the weekend...

yesterday was the complete opposite...
it was a wonderful day!

I was up and outside taking photos...
dead heading flowers...

it was Monday evening that I found this...
it was huge and I couldn't believe we hadn't seen it before...
this is the line of shrubs out front...
see the big white X?

this is what was in there...
a big bald faced hornets nest!
its a wonder that no one has been stung...
I walk Charlie right by there...
the cats sleep under there...
mower guy rides right past there...
it had to go...
cost us $100 to get it done...
but the guy came right after lunch today and sprayed it...
not going back out there until after DH gets home...
these are pretty mean little varmints and can swarm on you pretty bad...
check out the youtube videos of the idiots who make them mad...
;0)

after my great and amazing speedy recovery yesterday, I got up early this morning with a d sore throat and both ears aching...
;0)
doing better now...
just need cold medicine and a nap...
there is something going around here already and school's just been back in session a little over a week...
;0)
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come this winter...
I might just hit doc up for a cootie shot...
;0)
have good days!

we got so much done over the weekend...

these are making so much noise now, its all you can hear...

but had both guys off on Saturday and did we ever get things done...

we did the island...
its ready for fall...
the iris I will mow off later...
right before the snow flies...

we cut back, raked out and pulled the weeds...

moved a few things a bit and headed for the next project...

I didn't get shots of it, but we cut the hydrangea and ferns back to 3 inches...
and while DH and I cut and pulled, Craig kept up the hauling to the burn pile...

these are yet to bloom...

then we heading to the "hill" behind the house and raked and cleaned that up...
so I can take the mower back in there now...

then we headed over here...
and DH took the push mower and mowed the day lilies down...
then we raked it all up and rearranged things here...

the corn is drying fast with no rain and heads are dropping...

we worked and got things done...
then DH headed for Paris and Kroger...
while Craig and I cleaned inside and got things done at home...
DH brought home a late supper with the groceries, so as soon as those were put up...
we pigged out a little...

behind the hill...
I can mow to the corn now...
I just set the deck up high and it keeps the weeds down...

the back of the island...

autumn clematis is ready to bloom...
this one is on the bike in the island...

the garden will be the last thing pulled...

another autumn clematis in the north yard on one of the ever greens...

these are sweetest smelling blooms ever and will have butterflies and bees all over them when they open...

did you ever have the feeling that you were being watched?
well...I did...
and then I saw her...
we have so many different colored praying mantis this year...
this one is rusted!

Friday and Saturday nights, DH and I did a bon fire...
and sat out around it for a bit...
Sunday, we worked on the fire pit area...
cleaned it out from the last two nights...
brought all the sticks from where we had cleaned up the yard and got them broke and piled, ready for another fire...
he hauled come bigger limbs and cut them up, so we are good to go for a few more...

we didn't have to mow this weekend and we got no rain...
so...its really dry and dying out there...
we are watering every evening...
pulling tomatoes every day and a few peppers...
we are cool for here...
70s in the days and 50s at night...
things are slowing down...
going back up to around 90 next week, so hoping the beans will finish...
but don't think the watermelon stand a chance now...
but you never know...
;0)
I am taking a down day...
I had a good weekend and felt better than I have all summer...
but I sure can't move today...
;0)
life with fibro!

Craig's photo shoot...

yesterday, while I was nappin'...
that boy grabbed my camera and went outside...

and here is what he shot...
trying to be creative and use different angles...

and he did pretty good...

we got rain maybe starting in the morning...
so whatever we want to do outside, we need to do it today...

quite a bit to do, but where to start?

little bitty ear of corn...

sure needs some work on it...
like cutting it back to the ground...

called the mower guy and told him we didn't need him this week...
its been a week...
and that's after the rain...
the ground just soaked it up and it was gone...
so...
going to head back to bed...
been up since 2:30, and with the guys still snoring and all...
I might as well join them or be taking a nap when they are up and ready to work...
I can't do much, but I can still boss and they need me for that!
;0)
have  great weekend and enjoy the no snow weather...

gearing up for fall...

are you ready?

its coming...

just a few weeks and this will be the busiest place in town...

I am not ready but I am ready for a change...

it feels like the summer was so short...

since we seemed to have spring forever...

football season is about to begin...
been watching the guys practice behind the school...

and look what came last night...
a late birthday cake for me...

its as evil as it looks...
going to chop it up today and put most of it in the freezer...
Craig's ex girlfriend made it for me and dropped it off...
while he was working last night...
I think I am good for chocolate for some time now...

Craig survived the busy college move in day...
and now has his 2 days off, so got to move while I have help...
goulash on the stove for supper...
babies fed and cage cleaned...
more to go...
have a good day...
;0)
