springtime is the time...

when our local shelters could use a little extra help...
its the time of birth...

and so many new litters will find their way there...
unwanted...
unable to be cared for...
needing loving homes...

and the shelters budgets are stretched to the limits...
so...
if you cleaning out closets and cabinets...
and you have old towels or bedding...
throw it in a bag and drop it off...

buy an extra can or two of food...
a bag of kitten chow...
got an old leash or collar laying around?
throw that in the bag, too...
garage sales this weekend?
buy the yucky old towels and dish towels no one else wants...
it might be the only thing between them and a concrete floor...

this little one is up for adoption at our local rescue now...
saved from a shelter and in a foster home...
as you know, I did a post on editing the photos for them and the shelters around here...
and I ran across this little one yesterday...
that just made me smile the whole time I worked on the images...
this one's ears seem to have a mind of their own...
;)
doesn't that face just make you giggle?
I know it will not take long to find a family for this one...
have a great day and remember the babies that are waiting...
;)

its warming up again...

sunrise on the island...
birds were singing and dining...
and it was a wonderful day...
just a tad chilly without a sweater...

I love sunny, long sleeved weather kind of days...
broke out the box of spray paint cans...
more on this later...
need to figure out what to do with them...
I have 2 of these and they are huge...
the other on is playing a harp...

the columbine are starting to bloom...

and the tulips and lilacs are still going...

the grass is so green and the trees are filling in...
the farmer planted the field behind us yesterday and sprayed...
beans this year...
pooh...
like the privacy of the corn...
but no matter...
the farmers are sure hitting the fields and we have a full week without rain in the forecast...
but its coming back here over the weekend...

got 3 home alone days and a list to watch on Netflex and 2 new books from the Goodwill trip last weekend...
and a sink of dishes and so many babies here...
I anticipate a lazy me day here...
what's your plans?

its been a few days...

I was so sick Friday that Craig even called in to take care of me...
stomach thingy and then full flare on top of that...

Saturday was much better, but all rain...
Doug, the oldest, had been to the walk in clinic and their doctor said he had fluid in the lungs...
but the pharmacy's computer wouldn't accept his script insurance card...
and it was $70 which he didn't have...

he got a hold of me on facebook Saturday morning...
so we got ready and headed for Walmart and picked it up for him...
did some shopping...
ran by and grabbed him some lunch on our way to his apartment...
and dropped off his inhaler...

she prescribed that and over the counter Claritin for it...
he had that...

so then we did lunch and hopped by the Goodwill...
this is where I think I will put the fairy garden...
if I can find a fairy!

is it like that movie...
it you build it, they will come?
just step out there on faith?

got some really great things at GW...
even a tigger for Charlie...
he LOVES it!

I got 2 long sleeve tops and 2 sweaters, half off...
a bunch of things to upcycle...
or just flip online...
(sell for a profit)
I completely forgot scarecrowess clothes!
der moment in there...
but our city wide is this weekend...
and I might find something there...

Craig had Saturday off, too...
so it was fun with the three of us...

Sunday, we weren't going to do much at all...
but mower man came right after my shower...
so, ran out to pick up the stuff in the way...
then I put on the new wiper blades on the van...
DH about stroked out when he saw the price on those things at walmart, but he got what he wanted...
we have one on the back, too...
then I mowed the south yard and when that was done, it was lunch time...
ate a bite and went back out to clean off the deck some more...
got that as far as we can take it now...
its been chilly, even in the sun here...
but we ended up working all day out there...
then back in here to finish up where I had left off in the kitchen and get the linens back on the bed...
doing a down day today...
sore...
achy...
but its sunny out with the wind blowing...

got 3 more babies coming in this evening...
6 weeks old and weaned...
just need to evaluate and find homes...
easy peasy...
;0)

Hopper watching me...

got fresh green beans, potatoes and bacon going here...
smells good...
manwiches tonight with them...
a little cleaning up outside...
its sunny, but chilly...
no frost last night!

got 4 kittens coming in...
emergency...
a friend who is a nurse...
asked for one of her patients...
cannot take care of them...
social worker will call me...

gearing up for the weekend...
;0)

frost tonight?...surely, they jest...

we have the heat back on...
nippy here and windy...
the lantern we use to feed the bigger birds came down in a wind and broke the hanger upper thingy off...
I will need a washer to fix it...
have a plan...
that was Saturday's temp, not today's...

I need to replant more tulips...
lost so many the winter before last...

my favorite shot of that day...
looking through the dwarf lilac and iris...
aiming for the tulips...

I did a little rearranging out here and love it...
not much difference, but enough...

pardon my dirty teacup...
just not quite warm enough to play with the hose yet...

south yard bed...
I am amazed at how much things can change here in a month...
not that long ago that this was covered in snow...

but now that winter is behind us...
(most of us)
its time for the dreaded whirly gigs...

and the maples are full of them this year...
just imagine how many of them will land in the flower beds and pots this year!
I will be pulling another forest!

and finally today...
my new ride...
DH bought it for me for Christmas...
from a friend who doesn't mow anymore...
and its all mine...
I still have my little wagon from years ago...
( poor thing is 20 years old now )
and together, we are going to garden like its 2015!
I can now go anywhere on this acre all by myself...
I need to name her...
I need a flowery name, I think...
so if you have an ideas, leave them below!

thinking of purple flames down the side...
;0)
oh, the possibilities...
pink tires might be too much!
have a fun hump day...
see ya soon!

we have babies...

Annie had her babies last night...
3 before midnight and dad's birthday...
and the other 2 after midnight...

she had the most easy delivery...
and she did very well...
ate all of the after birth like she is supposed to...
cleaned them all up...
I only had to help a little bit...

and she is doing so well taking care of them and letting them nurse all they want to...
got her into another kennel with room for her feed and water and a potty box...
the babies are warm, clean and full...

now, this pregnancy is our fault...
I have been so worried about her...
she is the one who crashed on my many times last year and I had to pull her off of the adoption list...
she is my baby now and will be forever...
just in case she has problems in the future, but I am hoping she has outgrown all of that...
I was waiting a bit longer to have her fixed to make sure she was strong enough to make it through surgery...
I never knew she went into heat, and when I went to call the vet to schedule her...
she was already pregnant...
we have 2 outside toms who come into eat...
they will be getting fixed this spring late...
they are out there to keep the other stray toms away...
and it worked...
we got rid of the ones who were fighting with our fixed animals and tearing up the deck...
she will be fixed as soon as the babies are weaned...
and the boys within the next few weeks...

Missy is heading out for her forever home this week...
and we have another down and kenneled...
Buttercup tried to jump up on the stereo cabinet, grabbed the doily and pulled everything off on top of her today...
DH bought me this wonderful lead crystal vase for Christmas several years ago...
and it landed on her right leg...
it feels broken to me...
so she will be kenneled for 2 weeks...
it will heal on its own...
and it will heal fast at her age...
its not in the joint, so that's a good thing...
the vet will just tell you to kennel them and keep them quiet and don't let them jump...
so that's what we are doing...
the bone is straight and will keep an eye on it...
if complications happen, she will be vetted...
she is sleeping and comfortable...
eating is fine...
so, its been a long day...
2 kennels are up in the living room...
laundry still going...
supper done, but the kids want pizza, too...
so might grab a piece when that comes in...
I lost 12 pounds in the last month...
and need to do so much more...
so- if you don't hear from me from time to time...
I am gardening and taking care of babies...
and doing laundry, cleaning house, taking the dog out to potty...
and sleeping when I can!

I wish the lavender buds stayed for the summer...

our world right now is surrounded by the budding of the red buds, fruit trees and dogwoods...

but these are my favorite by far...

the magnolia's are dropping their petals quickly now...

leaving a pink carpet under them...

and the woods are turning green...

the green starts at the bottom and creeps up through the spring...

but right now, is the prettiest time of spring for me...
and the tulips are just amazing this year...
will get photos of them tomorrow...
maybe...
high winds...
will have to see if they come out...

and today is my dad's birthday...
and my uncle's...
born one year apart, exactly...
and both are on the other side now...
and their family is almost complete...
just one brother remains...
he would have been 80 today...
I can't even imagine my parents being that old...
and uncle Don, 81...
born and raised during the depression...
always grateful for what they had in life...
;0)

a rainy day here...

its a bit gloomy and wet to do much today outside...
but it was wonderful for a photo shoot in the woods...
the colors are so vibrant in the rain...

we worked hard yesterday in the yard...
sunny most of the day and almost 70...
we just kept at it...
and we didn't get it all done, but we took a big bite out of it...

we both woke up feeling really good...
probably the best day either of us has had in quite some time...
we started out with the island...
and hauled leaves to the dump several time...
grabbed lunch up town and after I took a nap...
we started in again and didn't stop until supper time...
Craig brought home 10 bags of top soil and 2 of cow manure...
we got that unloaded and its just laying on the garden...
we have time to open and work that up later...
not time to plant here, yet...

the rain will make things grow...
and give us old folks a day off to recover from the nice, warm, sunny day...
;0)
