what we call farmer's pie...

start with boiling potatoes...
mash part of them...
and I use the mixer for these because we like them really creamy for this...
potatoes, butter, milk, pepper and parsley flakes...
always make a little extra for potato soup for later in the week...
brown your ground beef...
there is some grease in this but it's not swimming in it...
we put it in a food processor...
I have a twin blade processor that is just the best one ever...
it gets everything...
no big chunks ever...
spread it out in a 9x13 cake pan...
lay down a layer of cheese slices...
sometimes we do 2 layers...
sometimes twice the hamburger and potatoes...
depends on how many you want to feed that night...
spread the mashed potatoes on top of that...
you can add grated cheese on top...
sometimes we do that...
and these are our layers...
you can add a can of well drained veggies, your choice, on top of the hanburger it you like...
I cannot have anything with a hull, so no peas or corn in it...
we serve it on the side and the guys just mix it in on their plates...
and after supper, there are only 2 pieces left out of 8...
I ate 2 myself and it was so good...
I started doing this when my kids were little and started getting picky about what they ate...
but this is one thing that they never argued about and ate it all...
even the neighbor kids and the boy's friends would show up on farmer's pie night...
when kids stayed all night, this was what they wanted...
mom's used to call me and ask me how to make it when their kids went home and told them they loved it...
and it's so easy...
and it microwaves really good for lunches the next day...

Craig and I drove around this morning...

a tulip tree blooming...
notice no traffic...
old church...
do you have these signs out in the country...?
I think they are supposed to stop people from driving into the fields...
they don't always work...
dam...
green and water...
clumps of grass...
back home and the lilac...
green...
blooming...
filling in....
and we have more work to do...
blooming....
and more sticks down...
pavers holding down the cushions....
all signs of spring courtesy of God...
blooms, leaves, green, gray skies and rain...
and just overnight, more trees are leafing out...
we may not get everything right when we want it...
but when it's His time...
He does it good...
spring blessings to you!

coming soon...
farmer's pie...

more of yesterday...

had a bumpy night off and on...
but so far so good today...
columbine...
I just didn't feel like getting all of these on last night...
so just sit back and enjoy...
getting ready to haul the last load to the land fill...
Craig stacking his fire wood...
needin' some paint...
my grape hyacinths are so old, they sure don't have a lot of color to them...
bed post...
Mr Wiggles and Doofus playing around...
my guy...
plowed fields are everywhere...
and after the sun came out...
I thought we had better get the chair out of the fire pit and back where it belongs...
and found more things coming up...
look how dry our dirt was...
little wagon back in it's spot...
little green leaves...
and the sun...
which isn't happenin' here today at all...
maybe tomorrow...
but cloudy days are the best kind of days for naps...
and blogging...
it was 72 when DH left for work this morning and it's 48 at almost noon...
we are to be in the 30s tonight...
got the windows shut and the furnace back on...
making farmer's pie for supper...
have a great day and smile!
