I took a walk today...

it got up to 37 today...
so I grabbed my robe...
my heavy robe...
and my camera and went outside...
I took photos as I went...
I walked around the front of the house...
and then down the walk...
to see the cone flowers...
and the mail box...
some of the snow had already started melting...
cone flowers...
new growth last fall still hold a couple berries...
there is color in winter besides grays and whites...
a branch growing twisted...
I took my walk today...
without my chair...
under my own power...
only taking DH's arm to get over the snow so I didn't slip or fall...
and it was a good thing...
thank you Lord...
it's the first time I have been off of the porch since November...

it came!...

my new issue came on Saturday...
and I just opened it today...
what was I thinking?...
look at these!...
aren't they fun?...
and pretty blue birds...
and my friend made these over a year ago...
I bought 2 of these from her...
now I know what to do with them...
pretty yellow feathers...
I love the look of this planter and I'm doing it this year...
robins are always fun...
some odd things...
morning birdie cereal...
busy robin...
and crocus through snow...
then there are ads inside the bag, too...
re-blooming iris...
and a re-blooming lilac, want one...
and black elephant ears...
I want these peonies...
and look!...
white hosta!...
just too cooooool!
and then there were these...
no way would I wear them gardening...
maybe to go shopping for plants and supplies...
but never in the dirt...
girlies, if this doesn't make you ready for spring...
then nothing will...
I'm making plans...
where all of it is going to go...
and how many new beds will be needed...
shhhhh....
don't tell the guys...

ok...this is what I gave birth to...

kind of looks like Ringo...
not sure what program he got into...
alien?...
this is his FB profile photo this morning...
I need to show Rebecca...
in love with himself...
and totally twisted...
that's my boy...
warped...
must have thrown him up into the ceiling fan one too many times when he was little...
yep...

an amazing man...

King was awarded at least fifty honorary degrees from colleges and universities in the U.S. and elsewhere.[202][203] Besides winning the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize, in 1965 King was awarded the American Liberties Medallion by the American Jewish Committee for his "exceptional advancement of the principles of human liberty".[203][204] Reverend King said in his acceptance remarks, "Freedom is one thing. You have it all or you are not free".[205] King was also awarded the Pacem in Terris Award, named after a 1963 encyclical letter by Pope John XXIII calling for all people to strive for peace.[206]

In 1966, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America awarded King the Margaret Sanger Award for "his courageous resistance to bigotry and his lifelong dedication to the advancement of social justice and human dignity."[207] King was posthumously awarded the Marcus Garvey Prize for Human Rights by Jamaica in 1968.[202]

In 1971, King was posthumously awarded the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for his Why I Oppose the War in Vietnam.[208] Six years later, the Presidential Medal of Freedom was awarded to King by Jimmy Carter.[209] King and his wife were also awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004.[210]

King was second in Gallup's List of Widely Admired People in the 20th century.[211] In 1963 King was named Time Person of the Year and in 2000, King was voted sixth in the Person of the Century poll by the same magazine.[212] King was elected third in the Greatest American contest conducted by the Discovery Channel and AOL.[213]

More than 730 cities in the United States have streets named after King.[214] King County, Washington rededicated its name in his honor in 1986, and changed its logo to an image of his face in 2007.[215] The city government center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is named in honor of King.[216] King is remembered as a martyr by the Episcopal Church in the United States of America (feast day April 4)[217][218] and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (feast day January 15).[219]

In 2002, scholar Molefi Kete Asante listed Martin Luther King, Jr. on his list of 100 Greatest African Americans.[220]  source- wikipedia online

I also read that he skipped 9th and 12th grades and entered college at age 15.  He did all of this in 39 years.  Most couldn't even begin to do all of this if they lived to be 100.
I was growing  up during all of this happening.  Assassinations, vietnam, riots...and all in the name of peace.  It was a crazy time in our country.

a year ago today...

my father in law entered into Heaven...
I can't grasp where the time has gone...
it sure doesn't seem like a year has past already...
I do miss talking to him daily...
he had a wonderful sense of humor...
he was a little ditsy...
and not from old age, just born that way...
I am glad that DH has this day off...
so we can do this "first" together...
I hope God hasn't made him stand in the corner yet...
he's a prankster...
he loved to laugh and to make others laugh...
he never grew up beyond 7 years of age...
he would call me and say...
"How are you doing, uglier than me?"...
and I always reminded him that he was older than dirt...
I never thought I would miss being kicked under the table...
being pushed into bushes...
or watching him pose...
because as he said...
he was BEAUTIFUL...
and I would roll my eyes...
and tell him...
"yeah, maybe compared to a frog"...
but I do...
God's got his hands full now...
I'm telling you...
and when it comes my time to walk into Heaven...
I'm ducking as I go in...
cause I'll betcha he doesn't fly any better than he drove...
miss you, old man & try to stay out of trouble...
