Craig went to our high school's open house today...
it is scheduled for demolition...
spanish room...
hall way...
Craig's old locker...
in the basement...
we used to be the Oakland Oaks...
then we consolidated with another town and became the Tri County Titans...
stairway...
vintage skylight above the stairwell...
library...
english/ computer lab...
another set of skylights that have been covered for years...
details in the ceilings...
science lab...
home ec kitchens...
sewing area...
computer lab...
Craig's class of 2004...
29 students...
driver's ed...
driver's ed desks...
so you can learn how to buckle up...
hall way on the top floor...
narrow hall way...
details in the ceiling...
old alarm...
drinking fountain...
he peed in those...
boys' bathroom sinks...
yuck...
they never took the old on out...
he said the chemistry lab used the gray sink to wash out their stuff and the other one was for hands..
looking out the top floor toward the street out front...
the clock in the old gym...
which hasn't been used in years...
1921-2012...
they have built a new addition for the high school onto the grade school/ junior high...
they have started moving things already...
and they must be out by the end of the month...
this old building was costing the district $5000 a month in heating bills during the school year...
the ceilings were too high and the rooms too large..
lack of insulation and there were more problems than money to fix...
Craig did get to buy his football jersey he wore his senior year for $5...
he was excited about that...
I had a headache today so we decided not to go...
the building is not accessible for me...
I could have only gotten on the main floor anyway and Craig did so much better with his photos being free to roam around...
its bitter sweet...
saying goodbye to something that has been here as long as anyone in town can remember...
not being there anymore...
but the comfort and affordability for the district, staff and students gives us a great sense of excitement...
something new...
something not falling apart...
up to date for the computers and smart boards...
this building has served this town well...
but she is tired...
and worn...
and its time...
to move forward...
we will get photos when they have the open house for the new addition...
I can't wait to see what they have done!

It IS bittersweet, Tete. What a wonderful building she was in her time, huh? Old skylights and sinks and all! It will be fun to see the pictures of the replacement. xo Diana
What a beautiful building, sorry to see those go. I'm glad he got the Jersey, at least he has fond memories.
I read about it in the paper. Reminds me of my old grade school in Greenup. Beautiful floors.
I hate to see buildings torn down...I can not stand it, and it looks to be not in bad shape. I read about it in the Courier. Time for change...
Happy mothers day!
Beautiful photos Sad to see old buildings go especially filled with memories!
reading this post brought back so many memories of my schoolyears. It is a shame that we have to tear down so many older buildings. I know the cost to repair is more than the buildings are worth but it is sad anyway. These pictures will be so much fun to look back on years later. I am kicking myself I have no pictures of my past schools. They are such an important part of our lives. Your son took some really awesome photo's. Hang on to them! Thanks for stopping by, it means a lot.
