its been a dandy birthday weekend!

well, as you know...
DH took Friday off for a 3 day weekend...
so we got up and headed out for a morning shopping in Paris...
hit Walmart first and got a cardigan, a denim shirt and a sweat shirt...
goofed around in the garden section and found little mums for less than a $1 each, so grabbed a purple one...
I was thrilled and excited that I had even gotten flowers for my birthday...
so we headed to rural king for bird seed...

and while DH wend in to get that...
Craig and I looked outside at the flowers...
and guess what we found!

we have been looking for 3 years for a yellow knock out rose...
and there they sat...
so we picked the best one...
this is called Radsunny and says is the only fragrant knock out rose...
isn't she pretty?

and I found this, too...
a deeper color cone flower than what I have...
the color is PowWow Wild Berry...

and here is my baby mum...

cone flower and mum went into the front bed...
the knock out is on the west side of the shed facing the street...

and the sedum is really opening up...

and we have honey bees enjoying them...
so that was a good day...
My son, Doug, and Paula came in on Friday night to camp in the yard this weekend...
so they show up and set up the tent...

Paula had to meet an old friend from California Saturday morning for breakfast...
so we started painting the deck...
that lasted until lunch time when Myra went into labor...
and about 5pm, the first one finally popped out...
and then another...

Doug and Paula got back to see the 3rd one born...
Craig had to work, so he came in right before the 4th arrived...

DH and I were grabbing a quick hamburger in between babies when Doug came in...
he had brought chicken thighs to cook out...
so I told him to go ahead and cook them...
but we had to eat now and get back to helping Myra...
they were so good- stole a bite or two later on...
and we manned our stations again...
had to help a little with all of them...
and she was getting so tired...
I kept feeling another one in there...
so we slept in shifts last night...
and still nothing by this morning...

so while the kids were packing up...
we started working on tacos in here....
and right when we are about to eat...
someone hollered, there's another one!

and there is was...
so 5 babies...
4 born on my birthday...
yippee skippy...
and we all got to spend time together...
and eat and all that...
Myra is a good mama and is taking really good care of the babies...
they are fighting over nipples and slapping each other...
they are huge and strong and can't wait until they can run around and pounce...

so what I am planning is...
starting back on the painting tomorrow...
a little bit every day...
so I don't go down...
and keeping an eye on the new family...
got to clean house and get the laundry caught up sometime...
hope y'all had a great weekend, too!
I will get better photos of the babies this week!

babies on my birthday!

just a quick post...

and on my birthday!
I will be back sometime tomorrow with more photos and to catch you up on things...
but its been a great weekend and our plans got changed when Myra went into labor!

made a change...

moved the pink bike all the way over there...

and of course the white one is over here...

still feeding the birds...

yesterday breeze was awesome...
and our low last night was 49...

and now each day we will creep up a little warmer...
until we see 85 next week...
this looks ok without a bike in it...

and the back to school week is on at walmart...
the one Craig works at is in a college town...
and he was not looking forward to it...

some of the older employees have been telling horror stories of the past...
and have the newer ones wondering what they signed up for...
LOL

the guys are coming and going around here...
DH even got some over time in last night...

so, I am home alone again...
with 4 cats and a dog...
just puttering around here...
there is a load in the dryer that I keep walking by...
ever do that?
if I do that enough, someone else will come along and fold them...
really...
that happens here...

this is what we had last night for supper...
this was my little sample plate from the afternoon...
had to make sure they were edible...
this last patch we are picking from are called contender...
they are the best by far of any of the others...
so that's what I will plant from now on...
so off the finish washing the counters and a skillet...
might even sweep...
DH took tomorrow off for a 3 day weekend and if I am lucky...
that deck will get painted...
later...

can you feel it in the air?

the whispers of fall are all around us...

sedum is blushing now...

leaves keep fallin'...

worked out here a little this morning...

met some new friends...

the leaves are disappearing fast now...

raked some...

and rearranged...

still loving the 70s...

saw 3 shooting stars last night...
visibility was not very good here...

here is the before...

and the after...
made a cake and some bread today...

took a nap...

went for a couple walks and puttered around here...

slow and steady wins the race, you know...

have a good evening!

the end of summer...

butternut squash...
may make it yet...

planted it for the blooms and foliage...

carrots...
wanted some ferny growth...
and its softer than the asparagus fern...

radish blooms...

and the roses are still going strong...

you know summer is over when the country fairs are done...
and the state fair has come and gone...
school starts on Monday here...

and here we are in the last week of summer vacation...

with leaves on the ground...

but there is still plenty of green...
humidity...
and bugs...

and slowly, ever so slowly...
the tomatoes are ripening...

watermelon...
do not have time to make...

but the tomatoes will...

note to self...
turn the ice cream chairs around backwards next year...
the back side looks so much more fun...

a baby watermelon...

but there are always plenty of weeds to deal with...

beef master...

watermelon vine in the tomatoes...

the rose of sharon is at its peak...

pickings this morning...
not much, but picked a few days ago...

going to plant watermelon next year...
and a lot earlier...

every plant has something special about it...

see, the back looks better than...

the front...

been spending so much time outside...
away from the computer...

the temps have been ranging from the mid 70s to the mid 80s...

some nights have gotten down in the 50s...

and I am so sorry about such a long post tonight...

but there were so many great photos today...

we did get a few drops of rain this afternoon, but not enough...
so will have to get out there and water in the morning...
probably too many clouds hanging over to see the meteor shower tonight...
its at the peak tonight...
so if you have clear skies...
sneak out in your jammies and make some wishes...
happy gazing to you!
;)
