Great news!

most of you know that my dad had a stroke last winter and that my step mom had to put him in a nursing home...
it was not the one we wanted...
they have a VA nursing home were they live but they had a waiting list...
the nursing home he was in wasn't exactly the best place...
dad is diabetic and they did not have a separate menu for him...
they gave him a regular diet...
letting his blood sugar levels go up to 480 -500 continually...
high blood sugar makes him mean and combative...
not to mention he could go into a comma...
they quit the PT within the 1st month...
my step mother had to take care of his legs when they swelled and started having sores...
they have dropped him...
sometimes he would go out to eat and they would not bring him anything to eat and take him back to his room...
my step mom would run out and get him something...
he is in a wheel chair and has lost 43 pounds since he went in there...
the Va took him today...
fed him a diabetic lunch and supper...
they are cleaner there...
they have a pond for them to fish in when the weather is nice...
they actually have activities...
they have church...
they will pay 100% if he gets his pension...
but right now his SS covers it all with some left over...
no more medical card or help from the state...
a new doctor...
and they will take him to the VA hospital for his doctor appointments...
I am so thankful that he is there now...
I know they will treat him with respect and he will get the best care possible...
and my step mom can rest finally...
and know he is safe and he is ok when she is not there...

I am so happy for you. I am sorry your father and your family had to endure such a terrible time. There was no excuse in feeding a diabetic a reg diet? That was uncalled for! Ok the nurse in me is coming out! He will have a better holiday, and I thank him for his service too!
