A year ago...November 2009...

last year in November, I was busy painting...
getting ready for Christmas shows...
and to sell on consignment...
there were still leaves on the trees...
and fall was in full swing...
the corn came out on the 10th last year...
a month later than this year...
and Birkey's needed a sign for their Christmas tree on the square...
my father in law was here for Thanksgiving and it was about a month before he had his first stroke and 2 months before he passed away...
because of his diet...
1000mg of sodium a day...
I thought it would be nice if we had steaks, baked potatoes and a salad for dinner...
he thought it was the best idea...
said it had been forever since he had had steak...
and cleaned his plate...
it was our last dinner with him...
and I am so glad we changed it up and made it super special for him...
the mantel was like this...
one of the desserts...
cheese cake with apple pie filling...
yeah, this is a keeper...
doing it again this  year...
then the next day we began decking the halls...
put up the little pencil tree...
my husband complains about it...
but until he strikes it rich and buys me a mansion...
this is what's happening here...
Christmas Is A Child was going on...
we gather toys for children in our school district...
these are a few of our local helper elves wrapping gifts so a child will have something under the tree come Christmas morning...
then the decorating began inside...
and it began getting a little chillier out...
and more and more things went up...
and the snow began...
just enough to get us in the mood...
and we never forget the reason we celebrate the season...
my son found these at the Dollar Tree a few years ago and thought his momma would want them...
he's such a good kid...
just a glimpse of the past and of things to come...
are you ready?...
2 weeks from today our tree will be going up...
we will be eating left overs...
making out Christmas cards...
it's coming fast...
2 weeks...
it's going to fly by...

What a wonderful and sweet post, Tete. It sounds like your health was a lot better last year too? Your painting work is amazing...you are very talented. And,how great that you could make the last Holiday with your father-in-law so special. However, I'm sure that being there with all of you was his most special gift ever. Hugs- Diana

Oh Lord, please don't remind me. It scares me how fast time is moving. I have a million things planned before Christmas gets here including two trips...aack! This was a fabulous post Tete! And I love your glass nativity scene. My nativity scene is one of my favorite pieces at Christmas. I also have been collecting old Italian chalkware Nativity pieces but don't have the whole set yet. I am looking forward to the Collection party on Sunday. It's still happening isn't it? I already have my post ready. :) Happy Friday to you.
