rummage sale find make over...

Craig found this last Saturday at the city wide rummage sale...
we have one in the spring and one in the fall...
the four candle holders have little spikes on them to keep the candles in place...

just a perfect fit for a clay pot with a hole in the bottom...
2 are filled with pink waxed begonias...

and 2 are filled with white ones...
I placed old ceiling fan glass shades in the pots upside down to give them something extra...

the only thing I could find wrong with the piece is that one of the leaf thingys is gone from the center...
didn't even notice, did you?
I love it...

well, here we are again...
another weekend coming up so fast...
this week has really flown by...
and DH is much better...
van is fixed and back home...
rain coming this weekend, so will get some inside stuff done...

I am feeling much better now, just a bit sore from all the yard work...
but so different that the last couple of months...
praying I have kicked whatever it was and that it doesn't come back!
praying for those who are dealing with a loss this week...
blessings to you and enjoy this warm weather!

an experiment in container gardening...

as most of you know, I am very limited on movement and what I can do...
we have talked about doing this for several years now...
and this year, we are going for it...
green pepper, cabbage and watermelon in one large pot...

3 super sonic tomato plants here...
the only thing actually in the ground, except for some cabbage plants that are in the flower beds...

a small patch of coleus and celosia are in the ground in the corner here...
hoping for some bright colors to bring the bees in to pollinate...

this is where the fun starts...
we moved the old loungers in here, which have seen their better days...
and used them to elevate the pots...
I planted green beans, contender, in all of them...

and there is the same number of pots on the other side...
and I have a lot more seed, so when these are spent, I am planting again...
the goal is to get at least 2 plantings, maybe three in the growing season...

I need 3 more tomato plants to put on the other side and trying to decide which ones to go with...
someone gave us all these pots and planters last year...
so we are going for it...
we can sit down and plant, weed and pick...
I will post photos as it comes along and let you know how this works...

the first clematis of the season opened yesterday morning...

I got this planted on Sunday...
in grandma's old wash tub...

a bumble bee with a bad wing...
it was crawling along the grass, unable to fly...

and the fun project of the day was this...
wait until you see how it came out!

this old card table is coming in handy for getting everything painted...

I had a so so kind of day...
not as much energy and get up and go as the day before...
but, I did ok...

DH went to the funeral and so glad he left me behind...
his cousin, Billy, came in from Topeka...
and they were both pall bearers...
DH rode with him to the cemetery...
Billy dropped him off at the funeral home when it was all finished...
but, thankfully, when he saw that the van didn't start, he turned around and went back to help...
after having the battery checked, they decided it was the starter...
DH called me, I called the mechanic...
and Billy brought him home...
had a nice visit with him before he left...

it could have been a real mess if I had been with him...
and trying to get the can towed and looked at...
thankfully, it hadn't done this on one of our shopping trips with the van loaded with groceries or on one of our drives out in the middle of no where...
;)
waiting for the mechanic to call and let me know what's going on and how long its going to take...

got a photo shoot today...
a man and his daughter who is in town to see him...
;)
will let you know how that goes, too...
;0)

from the freebie pile...

a baby dress, scarf and tons of spanish moss and excelsior...

2 old home interior pics, which I can paint the frames and give them a new life...
thinking of keeping the boy and selling the girl...

a perfume bottle, screw on top...

child's alphabet plate...

a box of cards and a box of lavender stationary...

both full of vintage fun...

and my favorite thing...
a little bitty vintage rose cup, to put my knock out roses in when they bloom...
and that's what people passed up...
I can't imagine what I missed!

(had our city wide rummage sale on Saturday, a friend pm'd me and said she left stuff on a hay wagon, it was all free, go get what you want!)

DH went to the dr this morning, and is doing better, but has his moments of pain...
funeral is tomorrow afternoon, and he is going to be a pall bearer...
the funeral home always has extras there, in case something happens...
so we will play it by ear...
busy day here...
garden is half done...
need to plant green beans, but wait until you see how we have it set up...
I can't wait to show you...
come back tomorrow for pics...
;)

I have waited all winter for this...

when we unloaded the van from our morning run for bloomers and all things pretty...
this little wagon was completely full..
we still have this much left to plant...

but I think we did a wonderful job finding some really pretty things...

I could find no rose bud impatients...
so will be looking for them while we go to other places...

I bought 2 different cabbages for the colors...
the other one is purple or red cabbage...

this is the big pot going by the steps...
many things were added here...

I bought 2 carnations...
this light pink one and a really dark pink...

we are so dry here, the ground so hard...
just wore us out trying to plant things...

at walmart...I found a concrete fairy...
so DH said to get it for my Mother's Day...
she was only $12...

between me and my fibro and arthritis...
and DH's bursitis acting up again...
we didn't get mush in the ground...

hoping for rain today...

we haven't even started working up the garden area yet...
but most of it is going in containers...

so will see how that goes this year...

I got more pots to fill and very little room in the beds anymore...
it was a very hot day for us...
but the wind was blowing hard...
and the farmers were kicking up dust all over the place...

hope you had a good weekend...
got a funeral coming up this week for us...
DH's cousin died in his sleep on Friday, so his wife called for him to be a pall bearer...
funeral and visitation is on Wednesday...

busy day, but not too productive for me...

our first iris this year!

I bought these from a friend before the sales started and Craig picked them up for me yesterday morning on his way out to look around...

I got up super sick...
to my stomach...

but he found this wheel barrow...

and this iron wall art and pots...
DH and I finally made it out and about...
took over an hour for me to do 3 sales...
so I just called it quits and came home...

the farmers were going full force out there...
and the dust was flying...

I did work out a bit...
sitting on my butt...

took all day to get a few things done...
but hoping today we can make to Paris to get our plants...

almost all the fields look like this now...

]
DH and I worked on these last night...
this will work unless I can find something better...

but this one is set for the season...
bib shorts and a flowery shirt...
screams garden chick to me...

a friend pm'd me late afternoon and said she still had a hay wagon full of stuff left over from the city wide and where it was...
all free...
go get what you want!
so we went and brought stuff home...
I will show you that tomorrow...

have a blessed day...
thankful the flare didn't last and that today is another day...
;)
