yesterday...

DH had a Saturday off!
after he went to town for stuff...
had the truck's battery checked and replaced...
we headed for Ashmore...
now this is like 3 blocks out of town north...
I have not been down this road before...
and it's my newest favorite place...
there is a tad bit of corn left standing...
and they were working it hard yesterday...
I would love to own this space...
I'ld put a house there...
wouldn't ya just love to snoop around in there?
heading out of Ashmore for home...
we have a new road!
smooth as a baby's bottom...
then, back in town...
dummy me calling cows for photos...
only the bulls looked my way...
move on, dear...
I messed up...
that's a puney fence and those weeds just aren't thick enough...
there is color all around and more coming...
Laurie, look!
more leaves!
she has a thing about them...
love this...
she has been spruced up this summer...
steps fixed, painted...
this is the first house in town to have an inside toilet...
really...
blue skies and orange leaves...
around the square...
just a sleepy little town...
deserted on Saturday afternoons...
everything closed at noon at Saturday so you can go to town...
that's Charleston...
it was homecoming weekend at EIU...
so many went to the parade and game...

the only time this place hops is at  harvest, which is winding down...
and when someone needs help...

DH had to go in early today...
after 3 inches of rain, it didn't slow things down at all...
the farmers where hitting the fields Thursday...
thought the guys would get a breather...
nah...not here...
we were so dry...
could use some more, too...

we had a good day...
just being together...
take a drive...
watching tv...
went for a couple walks...
and played with 3 baby kittens...
nothing much better than that...

freaky phone call...

yesterday just after lunch, the phone rang...
just had gotten done with PT...
and we didn't get to the phone in time...
but the area code was Richmond, Va...
I know this because my in-laws live there...
but it wasn't their home number...

my brother in law is have some heart tests done...
having some problems there...
so thinking that this might be one of their cell phones...
and that something might have happened...
I quickly dial back...
it's a lady named Debbie with a sugary sweet southern accent...
looking for my sister in law...

my brother in law was transferred to South Carolina and since he is so close to retiring...
they locked up their townhouse in Richmond...
and are renting in NC now...

so the townhouse should be vacant...
but this Debbie was standing in the middle of their house...
found our number in an address book and was trying to find my sil...

Debbie is on the board for the townhouses...
the door was found wide open...

someone broke in, had been using it to sell drugs out of...
they took the downstairs tv, but they think that's all...
most of their stuff they moved with them...
and took anything of value...

so there was really nothing in there to get...
they left the tv because it was too heavy to move...

I wouldn't give Debbie my sil's number...
I called my sil and gave her Debbie's number and told her what she had said...
Debbie said the house was trashed...
it wasn't...
a friend went right over and checked it out...

pretty freaky...
but it has been used as for drug dealing...
but not drug cooking...
there was no smell...

their friend stops once a week or so to check the mail box to make sure nothing is in there...
but he doesn't go in...
he is going to start doing that now...

it was a little freaky...
not knowing if the whole house was trashed or not...
freaky...

the rains have stopped...

we ended up with a tad more than 3 inches over the last several days...
and still no frost...
the birds will be berry, berry rich this winter...
the sun felt so good today...
but the temps still a bit chilly...
spooky old tree...
my kids and I used to read that book every fall...
over and over...
there are a few spirits lurking about...
they are more afraid of  you than  you are of them...
and we have bright fall colors..
the deepening of the sedum is wonderful this year...
and a new transplant blooms...
light and dark mix well together here...
I sure got my money's worth out of these this year...
so why don't you sit a spell with me...
cup of maple leaf tea?
anyone?
anyone?
yeah, today is the day we turned over the rain gauge...
and my tea cups are brought in and washed up for next  year...
we might...
slight chance...
get frost tonight...
spider plants coming in, too...
and when we get up in the morning...
this could all be gone...
but if it's not, it soon will be...
we need to get things ready for winter...
and we know that's coming soon enough...

it's been a day...

well, I made it...
it's 1:30 am now...
and all the critters are fed and finally asleep...
heading there myself...
I have had so much fun with them today...
didn't pick up the camera once...
been chasing fur balls here, there and yonder...
Beau Beau is wonderful...
and pretty fast for a butterball...
he is learning the place quick...

Bear...
he can slurp...
even had his first poopie...
had to have a bath...
kinda dove into his food...

Craig's friend, Chris came by...
yeah, they gamed the afternoon away...
I took cold meds and took a nap...
haven't seen Chris for a couple months...
he has 2 classes this semester and then he graduates...

had the freakiest phone call today...
but too tired to go into it now...
so when I get up...
this morning...
geez...
I will fill you all in...
night
