Sunday Drive...

the corn is up and so are some of the beans...
most of the planting is done and the rest will be in by the end of the week...

the weeds are high...
I love when the farmers let the roadsides grow up and don't mow them...
it is an effort to save wildlife in the area, giving them a place to nest and hide in...

it was a very windy afternoon when we were out...

there are even whirly gigs in here!

you can see the wind blowing the face of the water in this shot...

I remember a lot of farms looking like this as a kid...
scrap things lying about...
you don't see that much anymore...
every bit of ground is put to use...
and there are ways to get things hauled off, too...
took a down day yesterday...
going slow today and trying to catch up in here...
preparing for the guys 5 days off in a row...
cleaning out the shed and finishing the deck...
planting the rest of the flowers...
watering again tonight...
and hoping for some rain in there a little bit...
but would really like to knock off our to do list, too...
the guys are planning on cooking out for the first time, too...
like a couple of days in a row...
it is really feeling like summer here when the days are in the 80s...
had a cool night last night in the 40s when a cold front moved through and cooler today, but will be warming back up...
its just a wonderful time to be out in the yard...

just some left over photos I had lying around...

here are the two new lilies we got last week...
I am loving the colors...

the new hydrangea...
you can see we need rain really bad...
the ground is so dry and cracking...

these are in the new section on the back side of the island that we dug up and it needs some work done on it now...
that will be the next place I go...

I am thinking I need to stick something in those back pockets...

the autumn clematis is winding its way around things again...

iris...

this is pretty much finished...
anymore and it will be cluttered...

but I am going to plant a few more small things under the bench...
I will take you with me when I do it...

this is in front of the deck...
and just wait until you see what I do with those chairs...

the purple columbine in the side yard is huge this year...
I haven't had this one very long...
a couple years or so...

the island from the road...

there are iris and lilies in there so far with a yucca on the end...
and weeds...
lots of weeds...

we worked outside this morning, thinking we can't so much with the rain coming...
it was so dark and I thought for sure it would...
worked out front and in front of the shed...
planted 3 pots...
raked out the whirly gigs...
pulled some weeds and all that fun stuff...
while dead heading all the way...
came in and washed up and away we went...
grabbed lunch uptown and took it to the park to eat...
then did a Sunday drive and got some good shots...
we did housework when we got home and some laundry...
got one more load to go in the dryer, but want to get a nap first...
I hate when the dinger wakes me up!

we are still waiting on the rain, but the sun is shining through...
so we just might have to water tonight...
;0)
I don't mind that part...
one of my favorite things to do...
hope your weekend was good...

my dwarf lilac...

has finally come into its own...

this is the first year that it has had this many blooms on it...

it is a very pale one...

almost white, but not quite...

and it looks pretty in front of the iris...

it is blooming after the regular lilacs are finished...
I might pick up another one later on...
if I find one on sale at the end of the season...

this one is 8-10 years old...
can't really remember for sure...
I think I need to keep a journal of when we plant major things...
getting old and just cannot remember well when all the years start running together...
;0)
we have been blessed with another wonderful day...
cloud covered and a 70% chance of rain, but so far, we have gotten nothing...
we were able to work in the south side of the yard and made some progress...
DH also got the hedge clippers out and trimmed back the evergreen by the drive way...
Craig parks the truck there...
and that bush literally took the side mirror off of it a couple days ago...
well, its not completely off...
the cable was still holding it on...
I grabbed the duck tape and taped it back upright until we can get it into the shop and get another one put on...
;0)
I pulled bucket after bucket of those crazy maple whirly gigs out of the flower beds today...
wish I had a big shop vac to vacuum the lawn!
its the worst that I have ever seen!
there are still 3 flats of flowers to plant...
not sure where Craig is going to put them all...
I hate to admit this, but I am tired of planting them!
he bought way too many!

we are slowly knocking things off of the to do list, but still have more to go...
its going to look good when we get it done...
maybe I just have too many ideas?
nah....
;0)
have a good weekend!

I think this container garden is going to work...

bean greens coming up!
we were late getting them planted this year, but the weather stayed cool and we had frost the week before we planted, so glad we held off...

I planted this this morning with rose moss and there are 2 peppers in the bottom pot along with more rose moss...
rose moss can take full sun...
and will bring the bees in to pollinate the veggies...

I raked and cleaned up all the maple copters...
and there were more this year than I have ever seen...
then Craig helped plant some more bloomers behind the tomatoes...

these are going to be so easy for me and DH to handle on our own this year...
picking is going to be awesome...

in a month, this will all be so pretty with everything much bigger...

I planted a few marigolds to keep the skeeters away...
hope it works...

and there it is so far...
we have much more to do in the yard...
a few places we haven't even touched yet...
not getting overgrown and full of copters...
those things are just everywhere...
got to mow in the morning if its not raining...

I took a lot more photos today, but will post those over the next few days...
have a great weekend!

a quick trip to the green house yesterday...

we have a green house just 2 miles south of us...

aloe- who knew there were so many different ones?

Craig need snap dragons and for some reason, they are hard to find this year...

so, in the middle of our planting yesterday...

he wanted to take a quick trip out to Beck's to see if they had any...

they didn't have many left, but he got what he went for...

and of course, so did I...

some great shots of some pretty blooms...

he used to work out here, in his early college days...
he worked 2 summers there...

we love their plants, but they are rather high...
those 6 packs were over $3 each...
you don't even want to know how much the hanging baskets are...
but they are pretty...

had a home alone day today and another tomorrow...
DH is working some over time, too...
so may change up my sleep patterns to adjust to it...

cleaned off the deck this morning and it was in the 40s...
a bit nippy here but should start warming back up tomorrow...
and here is a photo of the little babies today...
they are so big!
had to move them from the kennel to a tote...
right now they cannot climb over the top and mom can get into them anytime she wants to...
they were crawling out of the kennel...
every time I looked down, one or two were out...
so, this will work for a short time...
by then, we can get something else set up for mom and them...

have a good night!
